Some evening, probably next Thursday, you will be arriving at our front door with a pizza and a hankering for helping us tile our bathroom. Unfortunately for you, we are running out the door with a giant blue ikea bag full of heavy items. You ask where we are going, and do we mind if you start the tile without us?
We answer: “We’re going to the Tool Library,” before rushing off into the Philly dusk.
“What is the Tool Library?” you may be thinking. Then you go inside and tile our whole bathroom for us before we get back. (You’re so sweet!)
Well. Here is a lovely image of the Tool Library off of their website.
(I’ve been meaning to take a picture but for some reason my arms are always full of TOOLS. Crazy, I know.)
The Tool Library is an amazing place less than a five minute drive from our house, at 4620 Woodland Avenue. The basic premise according to their website:
“We loan tools to community members so they can perform simple home maintenance, tend their yards and gardens, build furniture, start projects, and learn new skills in a safe and affordable manner. We aim to be a community resource to provide home owners, tenants, long-time residents, and newcomers with the tools (and the knowledge to work the tools!) they need.”
Membership dues are just $20 a year and multiple tools can be borrowed for up to a week at a time. With over 2,000 tools in their collection, we’ve borrowed a hammer drill, sawzall, power washer, circular saw, planer, heavy duty mixing drill, framing square, jig saw, shovels, and much more. We love the Tool Library!
