Back to the flooring patching,
Using the right wood is only the first step to blend in the patch… then you have to find the right stain color, followed by the right sheen on the top coat.
After testing a few different stains on scrap wood, we finally attempted the floor (it’s hard to go backwards when staining wood). Here is the first coat of stain and it’s too light. But that’s alright, you can always go darker but not lighter…
In the end we ended up blending 3 different stains together to get the right color.
And after 3 top coats of polyurethane, it blends into fairly well.
Once we have furniture in the room you will never notice the patch (unless of course you read the blog post : ) )
