This is possibly the most boring post ever, but we got our pop up drains for our bathroom sinks:

They have an overflow hole that works with the overflow on the sink bowl. Here it is pushed down, CLOSED:

And OPEN. You just push it with a finger and it pops up or down… Hence “pop up” drain!
